Despite the fact that it’s mid-July, summer is wrapping up around here with back-to-school-time happening in a week. (Three cheers for year-round school calendars!)
We’ve just gotten home from a week of beachy vacation fun, and as it goes when there’s a gaggle of kids involved, there was a lot of sunny, sandy chaos. We spent hours in the water, ate all the ice cream, and left completely exhausted. One of the hi-lights of the trip though was that the house we stayed in looked out over the marsh.
There were egrets, herons, a plethora of song birds… and colors that wrap around you with a subtle softness - quite different from the happy, heavy, crashing of the ocean just a block away.
So, when I could steal away a quiet moment here and there, I pulled out a pen & some paper, and tried to capture the airborne elegance of our many feathered neighbors.
I’m looking forward to the return to routine that’s just around the corner (and quiet working hours!), but until then we’ll be squeezing all the fun we can into this last week of summer break.
‘til next time,
