Happy Friday everyone!
This week was full of carving & printing - which meant I was thinking & working mostly in big, blocky shapes. So, during my sketch time I found myself balancing out rigid carvings with loose, speedy gesture drawing.
I love gesture. I love movement. I love when an action flows so smoothly onto the paper that in just a line or two you feel the force of the character’s body. Of course there are plenty of gesture drawings that come out as unreadable scribbles (as evidenced below), but the freedom of gesture is a delicious break from the meticulousness of printmaking.
