What a weekend! I want to start by saying a great big THANK YOU to all the beautiful people of Greenville who stopped by booth this weekend at Indie Craft Parade. It was a joy meeting each and every one of you. And to everyone who signed up for my newsletter, welcome to My Yellow Armchair!
I usually write these newsletters cozied up in a big armchair in my living room (yes, it’s yellow), but today I’m out at one of my favorite local coffee shops soaking in some glorious weather, and taking a few minutes to reflect on the weekend. Rarely is a work event 100% sunshine and rainbows - but I’m telling you, this one was & I have the evidence to prove it!!
One of the reasons I wanted to start exhibiting at art & craft fairs was to connect in-person with the larger creative community, and this event did not disappoint. I met so many other artists & makers who are doing some incredible work. It was a very good thing that I was trapped behind my own booth most of the time, otherwise I would have come home with ALL of the goodies… I did mange to sneak away at the very end, however, to grab at least a few little treasures:
My #1 takeaway from doing this event was that art brings people together in a unique & special way. Handmade, human-made art will always have value because no matter how good the AI robots get at copying our styles, they will never be able to look you in the eye, shake your hand, laugh about the same inside joke, or create art from a place of emotion that words can’t articulate. My favorite moment of the weekend was when a woman walked up to my booth, pointed to my piece Looking for the Sun, and said “Why do I suddenly want to cry?”
I know why. So does she. And neither one of us has to say a word about it. But it means the world to know that human-to-human we understand each other’s feelings & experiences.
I’m really looking forward to being a part of more of these types of events in the months ahead - next up is the Bookmarks Book Festival in Winston Salem at the end of September!
I’m so grateful for you all. 💛
With a full heart and sore feet,

Congratulations, Amanda. I hope you get lots of opportunities to have days like this!
